Flower Rangoli

There are umpteen ways to create a rangoli - this is one of them!

Things You Need:
  1. Tray/Plate (colour of your choice, preferably transparent/white)
  2. Flowers (of your choice, we used orchids, marigold and jasmine)
Procedure:
  1. Place your tray/plate wherever you wish to create your rangoli. It is preferable to decide this earlier on as you will be likely to disturb the rangoli if you decide to change the location later)
  2. Choose your flowers accordingly, so as to create a design that is unique and fun to make!
  3. Add tealight candles or diyas later if you prefer to make the rangoli look better at night!
Create a design (like the one above, or try something new!) and place this in front of a deity or even as a centerpiece on a coffee table - it will never fail to impress!

Mess- Free Rangoli

Diwali can never be complete without rangolis. This year, we decided to give the age-old rangolis a much needed tweak, and how!

Mess-Free Rangoli

Things You Need:
  1. Old tile
  2. Pre-drawn paper rangolis (preferably printouts that have been coloured in with colour pencils or simply use a colour printout)
  3. Four tealight candles
Procedure:
  1. Place your tile wherever you intend to make your rangoli.
  2. Use rangoli stencils (available online) and print these out (either in colour or black-white) and perhaps cut them out in different shapes and styles. If you have a black and white printout, it's fun to colour them in with colour pencils/crayons/shiny-pens or paint or anything creative you can come up with!
  3. Place these paper rangolis in any way you deem appropriate on the tile.
  4. Fill in any empty spaces on the tile with a single tealight candle as shown in the photo below.
  5. Light the candles at night and you won't be able to peel your eyes off this wonderful creation!
This is an easy and mess-free way to create a rangoli that not only stays for more than a day, but also is fun to do!

Place your pre-drawn rangolis and candles in the above shown format (preferably) and don't forget to light the candles to enjoy the effect at night!

Best-out-of-Waste Table Decoration

This Diwali, our theme was to create something unique yet attractive that could be arranged on a coffee table. Experimenting with different ideas, we came up with a best-out-of-waste table decoration, again made out of Ferrero Rocher waste.

Table Decoration

Things You Need:
  1. Ferrero Rocher (24-pack) tray and lid
  2. Ferrero Rocher golden chocolate tray, with 24 depressions for the 24 chocolates
  3. Tissue Paper (colour of your choice)
  4. Food Colouring (Colour of your choice, we have used Turmeric/haldi)
  5. Assortment of fresh flowers (we used orchids and chrysansthemums, you can use any you like, such as roses, jasmine, etc.)
  6. Eight tealight candles
Procedure:
  1. Arrange the Ferrero Rocher tray and lid in addition to the golden chocolate tray in which all 24 chocolates are placed as shown below.
  2. Remember to place the tissue paper below the Ferrero Rocher lid and tray as shown in the photo below.
  3. Fill the golden chocolate tray with the flowers of your choice, so that it looks like the flowers are heaped one on top of the other.
  4. Fill the Ferrero Rocher lid and tray with water and later add the food colouring to it to accentuate the effect.
  5. Place four candles in the corners of the lid and tray each, so that in total you have placed eight tealight candles on the entire arrangement.
  6. Light the candles at night and enjoy the effect!

There you go, you have a wonderful table decoration that will be hard to ignore through the night! What's more, it's best-out-of-waste and is practically free!

Arrange the Ferrero Rocher tray and lid as shown, with the tissue paper beneath. Be sure to place the golden chocolate tray in the middle so as to give a better effect.

Fill in the coloured water, place the flowers in the golden chocolate tray as required and remember to place eight tealight candles in the corners as shown above.

Lighted candles add the Diwali effect at night!

Best-out-of-Waste Flower Hanging!

I aim to share a few ideas concerning Indian art and craft through this blog, and any suggestions and feedback will be welcome :)

It's just been Diwali, and here are a few things we've tried out at home, and thought was worth sharing!

Best-out-of-Waste Flower Hanging (Made from Ferrero Rocher waste)

Things You Need:
  1. Card Paper (preferably red, gold or silver)
  2. Tissue Paper
  3. Brown Ferrero Rocher chocolate wrapping
  4. Golden foil from the Ferrero Rocher chocolate
  5. A pair of scissors
  6. Glue
Procedure:
  1. Cut out a floral design of your choice on the tissue paper. (To avoid wasting too much paper, try a rough design first or trace your design on the tissue paper first)
  2. Take this flower cut out of tissue paper and gently stick it on the card paper using the glue (preferably use a glue-stick rather than wet glue as the wet glue tends to show through the petals once dry)
  3. Tear off some of the golden foil used to wrap the Ferrero Rocher and roll it up into a tiny ball, so that it looks like a small golden ball. The idea is to stick this ball onto the tissue paper flower so as to make it look like a bud between the petals after Step 4.
  4. Also, gently tear off the brown wrapping from the chocolate and place the 'bud' onto the centre of the wrapping. Once done, stick this brown wrapping onto the actual tissue paper flower, as shown in the photo above.
Voila, your Best-out-of-Waste Flower Hanging is made! You can use this as a handmade rangoli, use it as a wall hanging or anything creative you can think of!
